The service

Geneacta is an online genealogy tool, alongside a research service on quotation.

The core of the site is free and will stay free: your tree, the transcriptions, the wiki, the forums, the guides, printing, the mobile app. The Premium subscription opens the functions that cost money to run.

Your account

A valid e-mail address is required; it must be verified before the site opens.

You are responsible for your password and for what is done under your account.

The username must be a name, not a message: web addresses and strings of symbols are refused at signup.

What you publish

You keep all your rights over what you upload. You grant us only the right to host and display it in order to run the service.

What you publish in the shared spaces — wiki, forums, guides, transcriptions — stays readable by members even if you leave the site, detached from your identity on request.

Forbidden: personal data of living people without their agreement, unlawful content, harassment, advertising, and the republication of protected works.

Moderation

Reported content may be hidden. Hiding is not destroying: the decision stays reversible and the author keeps their text.

An account may be suspended, temporarily or permanently. It is not deleted: contributions stay attributed, and a sanction can be lifted.

Subscription and payment

The subscription is monthly or yearly, with no commitment, cancellable at any time from your account.

Cancelling interrupts nothing immediately: access runs to the end of the paid period.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Geneacta neither sees nor keeps any banking data.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal; by asking for immediate access, you accept that performance begins before that period ends.

What we do not promise

Geneacta is provided as is. No guarantee of uninterrupted availability, nor of the accuracy of data uploaded by members — a published tree is someone's work, not a source.

Keep your own backups: the export button exists for that, and it gives back everything.

Governing law

Belgian law. In case of dispute, the Belgian courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the consumer-protection rules of your country of residence.
